Well, sort of. I wasn’t actually there. But on the top of Mauna Kea is where Tom works and where he takes so many of his gorgeous pictures of the sunset. I have now learned that he has been goofing off (according to the gentleman on this video) when doing that. He should have been inside getting ready for work. π

Keera – I actually saw this video just before I went off to CA, it's very good! As for Boris, I didn't actually meet him but certainly spoke to him on the phone, especially after the earthquake! I had to know what damage might have been done to the telescope and whether the shear pins had been broken (since he has one in his hands, they were!).The woman in the video is Meghan – she's married to a very good friend of mine, Omar (another astronomer). They work at the University of Nottingham which is where I spent a couple of years before moving to Hawaii and I go back there quite often as I still work with people there. Meghan and Omar just had their first baby a couple of weeks ago, Isla!As for goofing off, no need to worry, I know how to work the system and/or tell the telescope operator what to do if I'm off taking pictures ;)Tom

PS. The telescope Boris had no idea about is the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility (IRTF). He should have known that!Tom
